Visions

When I think of those I admire, I often find there is a common theme that runs among and across their lives.  They are all great visionaries!  He/she seems to be able to see beyond what you and I can see – reaching for something that is inspiring, beautiful, and intrinsically filled with Hope.  Frequently their ability comes across as modest insight.  I have come to trust their instincts, knowing how the steps of the past have taken me to places of wonderful delight.  Often they paint a picture that initially appears to be a modest goal.  I know their steps are filled with discipline, perseverance, and an obsession for detail – so there will rarely be anything easy or mundane about what we are about to attempt.  Their visions are wonderful invitations to join a quest worthy of time, attention, and openness.
Even now, I close my eyes and see the wilderness in new and different ways.  I find myself lost in the streets of Tokyo and Budapest.  I catch myself hanging out in a swamp, searching for an elusive car part or two.  Back alleys, relentless quests, or simple quiet time hanging out together all come into focus.  We are discovering new ways to see life through God's eyes and his/her vision.
Things do not always go as planned.  Sometimes the results exceed everyone's expectations.  On other occasions, projects remain forever unfinished.  In many ways, I have come to appreciate that it is the quest itself is the most important.  The outcome may or may not work.  Yet the opportunity to walk together always ends up inspiring and leading me to paths I otherwise would not have seen or anticipated.
You have taken some of those walks with me.  I hope you have found them as rewarding as I have.  There are more to come!  A new day and everything is possible.  We are God's endless vision.
