The wall was intimidating. There was only one sign. Fortunately, there was an unmarked counter with an individual standing behind it. I asked if I was in the right place. From his body language and answer, this was his norm, not an exception. Only after he gave me directions did I see a small, faded, forgettable sign pointing me to my destination.
I wasn’t sure why anyone would want to make it this difficult. It was a familiar pattern, seemingly repeated across the ages. Answers are hidden. The answers are complex and never easy to understand when I finally find what I seek. Someone seems to be making the journey from where I am to where I dream of being as difficult as it possibly can be. Along the way, I am sure my mission will fail.
As I left, I turned with a long look of reflection. I wondered if I could see beyond the walls in my life. Today, the lessons that emerged from the wall tell me it is possible.
There is more help than I realise. Against the wall, there was one individual. In him, I had everything I needed. When I left, two stood ready to help. In the past few days, friends have reached out in support. In each case, they are simply being themselves. Each gesture has the power of compassion, kindness, and care behind it. Each a touch of Divinity.
What seems complex does not always stay that way. Awareness allows one to see the complexity in new ways. Others bring awareness in their words and actions. Revelations are often a gift born when we hear life’s whispers. The future opens in ways we did not imagine when actions are taken by others or ourselves. The model was described in an old story; “He [Divinity personified] also bypassed the sacrifices consisting of goat and calf blood, instead using his own blood as the price to set us free once and for all.” (Hebrews 9.12)
Walls are intimidating. They do not need to be the end of the journey.
