I have a laundry list of injustices that needs, demands, God’s attention. I am not satisfied with the way the bad guys seem to be getting away with murder, literally. I am not happy to see hunger and thirst’s continued presence, anywhere. I am angry and frustrated with the rate of awareness others have of a gracious, compassionate, and loving God. I am feeble, but God isn’t! I understand my limitations, yet I believe God is all-powerful! I see how I am weak. God is strong; at least this is what my heart holds true. God can, should, must do something!
Impatience can easily fester and grow. When God’s people were insulted, threatened, and embarrassed, God’s answered seemed rather diplomatic. “This is God's verdict on the king of Assyria: ‘Don't worry, he won't enter this city, won't let loose a single arrow, won't brandish so much as one shield, let alone build a siege ramp against it. He'll go back the same way he came. He won't set a foot in this city. God's Decree. I've got my hand on this city to save it, save it for my very own sake, but also for the sake of my David dynasty.’” (Isaiah 37.33-35) Is this any way to deal with the situation? Is this what I was looking for? Will the problem end?
It is in the last question that we miss the bigger picture. When you or I see God act, in any way, shape, or form, it is a gift of Hope. When God participates in your life and mine, it is simply out of love – true, unending, and unmerited love. God didn’t create the mess we are in, but Divinity is responding.
The mystery exists on two levels, why and how. My answer is…
God is engaged by God is Love and Love is God.
God’s engagement is for a sole purpose; to restore us into an oneness with Divinity (Love).
The only question is our answer, yes/no. Everything else – pain, injustice, and even murder – is resolved in time with our response.
