I look out across the sand and water towards Abrahamic Family House. I can see each faith system revealing a different view of Divinity. While I am anchored in one, it is the story revealed by faithful followers of the three systems as well as others that informs my Divine image. Discipline and dedication in one, community in another, the extraordinary way Divinity is manifest in the human experiences (Divine faces), and so much more. I am in debt to their witness. Their lives and truths help me see the Divine within me with more clarity and understanding.
One of the truths which shape the way I see the day ahead is the crucifix on the altar at the Abrahamic Family Church. As unique as it is, it also mirrors the reality that each faith offers established truths reflecting Divinity’s desire to be in relationship with you and me. Before we were imagined, work was underway. In our self-awareness, we turn and discover that Divinity is waiting for us. She can be found in beauty and wonder. She is present in our tears. She is compassion and acceptance wrapped up in the storm as well as the silence.
Love cannot help itself. It will see, act, and respond in love no matter what is happening on our side. As Paul writes, “God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.” (Romans 5.8). It is in our turning toward love that we discover that Love has us firmly in her sight. She is ready and waiting, in each moment, in every circumstance.
Love works in unconditional ways. In every mode of response, proactive and reactive, Love is acting in our best interests. When I embrace Love, I find myself restored and recreated. I am transformed in a way that makes me whole and complete. The result of this embrace is a mysterious desire and intent within me to act in love toward those around me.
Divinity starts and ends in love.
