I can remember, even if it seems hazy at times, what my ideas, dreams, and visions were for my future when I was eighteen. I look back how the pictures moved around on the bright, dismal, and average days and realize just how different things turned out to be from any of the possible scenarios of those days. Conversations with people along the road during the past few days, where they are, have been, and want to be resurfaced my questions about the future.
Are youth the only ones with dreams? I do not think so, if my own journey is any indication. Can we be certain of what we dream about? Yes on one level, however along the way our experiences, thirsts, and pain will shape individual hope for the colors, sounds, and nuances of our future destination. Do the differences in your dreams and mind make a material difference in the journey along the way? Perhaps, yet in asking the question we get to the heart of the picture that I was blind to in my youth.
“We [can] plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.” (Proverbs 16.9)
Young and old want to experience a sense of belonging. Those comfortable and struggling share a thirst for things that they cannot yet hold. Hope, purpose, and compassion are universal parts of our lives that we want to be ever growing. Having said this, we often struggle to know how to proceed. Increasing forward momentum is difficult when life seems to be throwing spears at every turn.
Today is yet another day in the path shared by many. God gives each, you and I, help beyond even our wildest dreams. You have a guardian angel that is always with you, no matter why, where, and how you choose to live your life. You have access to the Presence, God’s very essence, to teach, guide, and instruct at the moment of your choosing. And you have a home prepared, customized just waiting for you to begin moving in.
