Common courtesy suggests that when approaching another vehicle that one dim their bright headlights. The changing brightness notifies everyone if the path that something is about to happen. Some drivers notice other just ignore and drive on as if they are unaware.
During the past two weeks, nail bombs rocked three distinct parts of the city I call home. The targets are minorities who, without warning, are immediate victims of a terrorist act. Regardless of one’s political or social views this is a significant event. What does it mean?
Pundits continue to expound on theories of hate and the challenge to society’s basic values, however I see another viewpoint.
People are dying to know, see, and touch God. People continue to fight their cravings by lashing out at everything different from them. Whites hate blacks, conservatives dislike liberals, traditionalists dislike anything new, and the list goes on. Inside or outside formal religion the fights continue. The only difference is the visible physical damage. I am not sure which is worse!
The challenge with knowing how to deal with people who have a God thirst is in responding. What is a follower of God supposed to do? How can we respond? Can I do anything to prevent these events?
I see these events as a dual signal. God reminding everyone that he’s acomin, bad things are all around, and good news is on the way! The events also signal the critical importance of walking arm in arm with the God of love and acceptance.
The first signal is a fact that becomes a footnote if we deal with the second signal. Do we know, believe, and understand how critical it is to walk with God? The importance is not only to protect others, it is for our own good and will allow us to get everything out of this life.
For some last night ended their ability to choose. Are we willing to walk with God? Decision-time!
