I easily remember the first days of my work in London. It was only a short time ago, however, that is not the reason. I recall the experience because of the confusion and mystery in understanding “who” we were and “where” we were planning to go as a group. The normal difficulties in working out a communication plan simplified themselves as a major crisis developed on all fronts. Everyone wanted to know the answers! Our mission became a byword mentioned several times a day and the distance to our destination measured and communicated every morning.
Today I marked the beginning of my third week away. I know that I am traveling back and I have complete confidence in what I am going to find. The knowledge that things will be better than when I left, that critical communication is flowing to all levels, and that difficult challenges are being tackled gives me courage and hope.
I easily remember the days when I could not find any individuals or groups that shared my journey towards God. It was not that long ago, however, that is not the reason. I recall the experience because of the tension and conflict that automatically occurred when I talked with these groups and most individuals. God understood this problem far better than I ever did. He seemed to sense the impending doom and risks for all involved on the journey. God took the situation with my openness to learn and let a major crisis develop in my spiritual walk. I wanted answers! The pursuit of God became an obsession that required deep searching!
God formed my solution through the lives of many different people. You are one of them. Your insights, words, and friendship are vehicles that God continues to use to communicate unconditional love, acceptance, and grace. Each of us has major challenges ahead. Having said that, “you seem to me to be well-motivated and well-instructed, quite capable of guiding and advising one another.” (Romans 15.14) The road is long, and pursuing God is a lifetime effort! Stay with it.
