The group of people I work with numbers in excess of 1,200 people. I clearly do not recognize them all out of a work setting, I have a hard time remembering many of their names, yet there is something that we share in common. We have a mission and purpose. We share a common goal. We, that mythical word that conjures up a wide range of thoughts and comments, are part of a family.
Given that I grew up in a relatively small family, parents and two brothers, I have a hard time understanding just how 1,200+ people could be a family. When others talk about nationalistic identity the visualization gets easier but I see the group I work with as having more than just an identity. We are here to get a job done! We are out to change business history! We are players in time that has a window of opportunity; if only for a little while. But the idea that we can truly be a family is, at times, baffling.
What is my role? Where do I fit? What do others expect me to do?
I look around and see that each is a member of different families. Those we live with, those that are blood relations and those that are part of our work environment all qualify as family. The questions do not end with me, you face the same perplexities.
God’s message to one church hold’s the key that applies to us all. What should we be doing? The answer is simple – “Hold on to the truth you have until I get there.” (Revelation 2.24)
Holding on is never static; it involves defending the faith, honoring the faith, and upholding truth in a way that shows the world what it really is.
My work family has a mission. What is the role of each member? Hold onto the mission, the truth of our purpose, until we get there! And yet each, you and I, have an even greater role – holding onto Divine’s truth.
The challenge is here. Ready for battle?
