There is something totally different about living in the presence of the present. If one can let the past go, learn yes but release the hurt, missed opportunities, and self criticisms, ignore the future and all the fears, uncertainties and doubts that one brings to its gate, and live totally in the present, amazing opportunities await. Perhaps the complexity of my attempt to capture the opportunity hints of the difficulty I continue to have in living in the moment. I find myself caught in a mirror where there are wiser choices, lost opportunities, and reactions where planning could have brought intentional action. Even when I turn and catch a glimpse of the future I find myself trembling in the clothes of uncertainty, fear, and doubt.
Today is an interest choice. Carli graduates and we celebrate. In so many ways it helps me understand what it is like to life just in the moment that we have. The eighteen years of her life, with twelve years of schooling dominating the scene until this day could be an all consuming vision, but it is merely a foundation stone. Everything is here for celebrating! Nothing need hold anyone back. Tomorrow will be found through a door that is filled with hope, assurance, and opportunity! Today is the time to celebrate with those who are here, physically and metaphorically.
I realize that the opportunity Carli has today is the opportunity you and I have in each moment. We need not forget the past; learn, revel, and remember all that is good. We have everything to live for and it starts with this moment in time. The scene is full of the things God brings to the table.
In times of old there were those concerned with God physically being present. The response then was as simple as it is now. “No one has seen the Father except the One who has his Being alongside the Father—and you can see me.” (John 6.46) We cannot see Jesus but we can experience the Spirit. Everything is here, ready in this moment!
