There is something special about India, yet it isn’t what first comes to mind. One of the attributes I often find present in the people I meet is a seamless way of their life flows across the barriers of personal, private, corporate, public, and whatever we call the space we occupy in the quiet darkness of the night. It is this wholeness which makes India and its people special to me. For those in India with this framework, as well as others living with a similar approach in any culture, place, and time, rests a simple fusion of life and its splendor, beauty, and potential. This fusion represents an opportunity to be authentically real in everything one does. I find myself reacting to people who live seriously authentic lives. I may not understand, agree, or fully appreciate their lives yet there is always something to learn.
One of the ways this fusion of life plays out is in celebration. Parties are serious parties! Events of all types, religious, business, and personal, are reasons to clap, cheers, and revel in the best life gives us. A simple anniversary of a new client is a big deal! Are guests coming to dinner? Celebrate by sharing and giving your heart! Is it a season to remember and look forward? Bring out the best!
I look back and I see that others have modeled this before our day. Centuries ago, there was a “huge crowd that had arrived for the Feast [and] heard that Jesus was entering Jerusalem. They broke off palm branches and went out to meet him. And they cheered:
Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in God's name! Yes! The King of Israel!” (John 12.12, 13)
I wonder if I am willing to be as free and open with what life and Divinity gives. I have experienced kindness, compassion, and mercy amid injustice, anger, and exploitation. What will I do with the gifts I have today? The answer for me is simple; it is time for serious reveling and celebration! It’s time to pass on Divinity’s gifts.
