I am lucky to be working with individuals that can see and do things that I cannot. They’re bright. They have an ability to see beyond what I can see. They are energetic. Their drive and intensity is different than mine, but it definitely is not less! I would be less than bright (an idiot) to not try to find ways to collaborate with them, leveraging their strengths and abilities to help me accomplish what I otherwise could not.
There is a positive reason for working and thinking this way. I believe we can accomplish more by working together than any of us could on our own. We will be able to see more together. The loads we collectively carry will feel lighter. Even the challenges, obstacles, and barriers will shrink in our collective grasp.
Equally motivating is an awareness of what individuals do to the change of failure. To each I would offer the following truth; “You’ll save me from a rebel life, save me from the contempt of dunces.” (Psalm 39.8) You will protect me from what otherwise would consume me.
With a growing awareness of all that is in the positive and negative lines of sight, I find my appreciation growing. With it comes a sense of responsibility. Appreciation is more than just saying words that make people feel better. It is a responsibility to engage, help, and walk with others. It is a calling and opportunity for me to be a part of their lives and aspirations just as they are with mine.
The lingering question is this. If I am going to accept what they willingly offer, am I equally willing to give without conditions and obligations?
I know that my words are not as important as what I do. In doing I express my heart’s words without filter or manipulation. We have an opportunity to thanks others who made yesterday’s pain bearable and today’s success possible. With them, the journey is better, richer, and fuller. With them, anything is possible. Thank-you is my first word but not my last act.
