The time for hesitation is gone. Our moment to pause and reflect passed some time ago. The choice of going into battle or watching from a distance has been made for us. We are neck deep in life, as far in and as real as things will ever get, and our moment is here for action! We may not want to wear the yoke of decisions, the mantle of responsibility, but it is on us and we will never be able to take it off.
I quietly laid out the facts yesterday to two trusted colleagues. I asked them what they wanted to do. I answered for myself but I left it open for them to choose.
Traveling with God is a journey through the hills. We soar to great heights and then we crash and burn. We sense God’s presence in and through our lives and then somehow wander into the wasteland where we wonder if we will ever see God again. We tend to give God credit for the mountaintops and blame for the swamps. Perhaps we misunderstand.
God was accused of being unfair. Our parents long ago chose to become part of the dispute; taking the position that God’s word could not be trusted, that we should become like gods ourselves. Ever since then, the road traveled by God and our parents has been one of demonstrating his [God’s] character and making our decision of trust.
I cannot prove God’s innocence. I can testify to what God says and the impact He continues to have in and through my life. His word is true, his testimony sure, and his motives are always driven by unconditional love and good news. This I know with a passion and conviction that defies my own understanding.
We are at war; in our lives to make a decision for or against God, in our work to show the same – we are and will be characters for God! Our action plan is simple – “readily recognize what He wants from you and quickly respond to it.” (Romans 12.3)
