It is easy to forget what the real “game” is about. There are too many expectations on all sides. Relationships fray due to a lack of understanding and compassion on one or both sides. We struggle while the noise of life often gets in the way of appreciating what already is. It is as if we have lost track of how precious each moment really is. Life is caught in a series of swirl pools and rapids. Just staying alive is the best many can do.
I find myself rediscovering what I have already known for a long time. The precious and priceless moments shared between friends will not be repeated with the frequency hope for. The gift of acceptance and compassion carries far more weight and value to our soul than one can possibly appreciate or understand. Even the sacred moments with God influence us far beyond what we realize in the scare encounters we allow ourselves to experience. Life is full of incredible moments of discovery even as we discard the very things our souls both thirst for and need for continued existence.
So, what does one do with this? Do we walk in fear – wondering if we might miss the critical moment of life? Is the uncertainty of it all going to drive our behavior in the short term?
I find myself realizing, yet again, how little of the future I know or understand. My assignment is to live in the present – here, now, today. I can learn from the past, I can prepare for the alternative which may come tomorrow. Yet the past and future are secondary to the immediate. The choice and questions are endless because you and I are free to choose.
So what I am going to do? I am taking one writer’s advice – “Raise the roof! Sing your hearts out, O Zion! The Greatest lives among you: The Holy of Israel.” (Isaiah 12.6) Today is a day to live! We can revel in the moment we have. Life is here, now. This is your assignment and mine.
