In the build-up to a major sporting event, I found myself texting with others I knew would be watching. Amid the fun trash-talk and insight-sharing, one reminder message stood out.
“Gotta remind myself, it’s only a game!”
In that moment, I caught myself smiling. Yes, it is only a game. It is also a restaurant. It could be a dramatic moment. There was a common thread in every variation I could imagine. It is a game we share.
A good friend reached out early today and gave me an update on a shared discussion. The follow-up is still in progress. He wanted to share an update with me, so I could stay informed. A summary of the message was simple; we are walking together on this journey.
Today’s whispers to start the day are reminding me that life is all about the journey and who we share it with. It is about the way we play. Each element plays a unique role in the dish I will make and serve today through my words and actions. I am holding onto the following posts to guide me.
Life will, at times, not be a level playing field. Welcome to the twists and turns, the complex interactions of success and failures. As unlevel as it is, life is better when I respond to everyone around me on the level. Paul’s old words are still on point; “Let’s agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other. Help others with encouraging words;” (Romans 14.19)
Life includes setbacks and opportunities. It is easy to take them personally, forgetting that I am part of a larger family and a bigger story. The clarity at any moment is not about the size of the challenge. My clarity comes when I wipe the sweat out of my eyes and see my opportunity to make a difference. In caring, pursuing, and giving all to being the best in the moment, the opportunity for good can be grasped and realised.
Life to the full is played with no regrets, hesitations, or limits.
