The fact that the weather was going to change was no secret. Everyone was talking about it. Any media that one might rely on was highlighting what was coming. I could not think of any excuses for not knowing it was coming. Knowing and understanding are never the same. Additionally, I often delay taking the bridge from knowing to action, especially when I am not fond of the truth.
Life offers whispers to guide and instruct, even when I am not listening to her. It was difficult to ignore what was around me. In the quiet stillness of the house, the whispers demanded my attention as they dominated my thinking. It felt as if I was turning a corner, towards where and to what end, I am unsure. It is clear that the invitation to turn towards Divinity and her offer of restoration and recreation within me has been in front of me for some time. Perhaps the calendar, nature’s action, and the stillness around me are coming to help me hear her voice more clearly.
We have cheerleaders in our lives. Some may have passed, even as they cheer us on. Others are both close and unknown. Individuals who are presenting gifts of acceptance, belonging, respect, and hope. The gifts sit, waiting for us to pick them up – a metaphorical step in accepting them. They cannot be forced, only presented. I woke with an old reminder; “Do you see what this means – all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running – and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins.” (Hebrews 12.1)
We are in the game of life. In every location and all situations, we are participants who can make a difference. Sometimes, I am lazy, sitting on the sidelines, waiting for others to act. I hear the reminder and calling today to engage, care, and make a difference. Many have and are caring for me. Today is my opportunity to care through action.
