Far too many of the wrong things are in my closet. There is no excuses; just a realization that I have hidden behind my ego and arrogance. What I too often think is resolving things by putting them in the back of my soul’s closet doesn’t really do anything but deceive my self, and even that not too well! There must be a better way.
Have you ever noticed how often public figures deny a story as the evidence continues to grow until it is overwhelming? I wonder if they have any idea of what they are doing. Once trust and creditability are established we don’t expect a baseball player get a hit for every appearance at bat. We don’t expect a basketball player to make every basket. What happens when public figures promises the impossible? Trust is tossed into the wastebasket before the words fade into silence. As obvious as these statements are, politician continue to hide behind the myths of their words everyday. What is the greatest foolishness? Is it thinking that others are going to believe you or believing the story yourself?
Occasionally one means someone anchored by his or her own humbleness and Divinity’s glory. The combination is incredible. It is as if they are saying in their actions that we should “blow the ram's horn trumpet in Zion! Declare a day of repentance, a holy fast day. Call a public meeting.” (Joel 2.15) Gather round and celebrate the power of Compassion, Mercy, and Acceptance to overcome the weaknesses and failings that we acknowledge. Anything that is in the open can be covered by mercy. Everything that we acknowledge is consumed by compassion. People who are full of holes are made whole and holy by Divinity’s gift of victory.
Closets are useful. They give us a place to pour out our hearts to God, deal with the junk. When it crosses into our relationships with others we made need a bigger room. Once this is done it is time to go publish with confession and celebration. Today is a start of something.
