Divinity’s Desire

Depending on one’s view and understanding, what God would like, wants, or demands from us varies and varies significantly. I have witnessed those who understood God’s desire to be public forms of punishment and penitence. I have worshipped with those who believe dancing before God is the sum of our relationship with the Divine. I have talked to those who continue to see something more. The question that always comes at the end is simple this. What does God ask us of us?

In my years, as I age far more quickly than hours suggest, I find that the lack of clarity on this subject rarely diminishes with time but it does settle. It is as if life overtakes even the strongest, consuming the thirst to know and leaving in its wake a dull ache that remembers the desire to be one with the Divine. For some it takes longer, but in the end most find themselves wondering in the darkness of the night, bluffing their way through the random conversations with friends, and struggling with the demons that run free within the heart and soul. Is God going to be clear?

If I look at my own thirst it is clear that it is near my heart and my soul. Nothing seems more central. It is as if life spins on this question and yet, with the absence of direction I pursue every other conundrum that comes my way.

John describes a scene where God has brought his kids, you and I, back home to be with Divinity forever. In this scene the magnificence and beauty is overwhelming. I find myself wondering what part I play. Where has God placed me?

“His servants will offer God service—worshiping, they’ll look on his face, their foreheads mirroring God.” (Revelation 22.4)

What does God desire? Worship; it is my created purpose, to dance in every possible way before God. Meditation; I look towards God and see, really see. Reflection; for me to mirror God in “who” to those who would ask the questions that I ask.
