Each of us has a dream. Some might think of it as putting words to hope. Others describe it as the destination for which we strive. Both statements are true yet they do not quite capture the scene of my dream. The first thing that you would notice if you could be in my dream with me is people. Hundreds, thousands, probably millions; as far as you can see there are people of every possible description and value system. Unique characters dress in the spectrum of bright colors to muted grays. Each is sharing, growing, and having an amazing experience with those that come into their circle.
This is a party that defies most parties that I have experienced. In this dream party you will find some things that you expect – laughter, smiles, great food, and music from acoustic to rock and roll and even to the best, the blues! You also find something different. When you come near a group there is animated conversation that strikes directly to your heart. The subjects are all about heart values – reaching out to others, helping those in need, exercising living compassion, proactive mercy, and unconditional acceptance. You hear stories of real struggles and success!
The party doesn’t just go on for awhile and then taper off. The sounds and energy feel and appear to have their own heartbeats. People are receiving more energy from being together than they had when they came! Even those who normally draw their strength from being alone are refreshed. The band plays on and I recognize many of the players from the past. I can’t believe it. This is just too amazing, too real.
At some point I come back to today’s reality and it is beyond sobering. You and I have, like John of old, been commissioned and empowered. We can start the party. Not many will be there initially but truth will win in the end. The invitation is open.
“I'm thunder in the desert: ‘Make the road straight for God!’ I'm doing what the prophet Isaiah preached.” (John 1.23)
