Echoes are powerful. While obstacles can shape and change, in the end the echo is always there for those willing to listen. I find myself caught in an ironic echo. I think I hold certain values and priorities to be true, only to discover with an echo was is my truth. The process is frightening! Even as turn away, the truth of whatever I have allowed myself to see tugs at my heart. I desperately want to know and experience my ideals. I want to know my dream’s reality. Even in my weakness and failures, I sense Hope’s hand.
Life’s demands, as critical and important as they are, pale in the bigger scheme of things. Families take precedent. Relationships are more important. It is easy to see how these two elements can and should be our primarily focus. I have found that both are secondary to something right before our eyes. Your soul is more important to you, as is mine to me, than anything else. The old man tells us to “listen to me, all you who are serious about right living and committed to seeking God. Ponder the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were dug.” (Isaiah 51.1) This is your and my number one priority.
Today I find myself listening to life’s echo. As I look beyond the noise of my life, I find God’s conversations. I see Divinity’s words given to me through the lives that touch my journey. I feel God’s music changing me from the inside out. I catch the Spirit playing nature’s instruments. Everything was there yesterday and it continues to unfold in the presence of the moment at hand.
In the morning sun, God’s kids are out in the park making music. Listen to the echo of their voices on the walls of our community. In the quietness of the dawn, God’s agents are making wonderful soul food. Enjoy the energy that comes when one lives in community. Everything is out on display. Grace is present, in the echoes and in our lives.
