The tender young coconut in the wholesale distributor’s refrigerator was minimalistic. Trim the edges, add a straw, and wrap. I know exactly what I would get if I purchased the drink. Plastic was at a minimum. It was simple, direct, and to the point. One knew exactly what one was going to get. For all the presentation, the evidence of what was inside was unseen. If one purchases the product, one must trust nature to play its designated role in creating the coconut water inside.
As today dawns, I wonder how often I trust what I cannot see. The answer is more than I realise.
I trust the beauty and voice of nature. In my best moments, I connect nature’s expressions to her Divine creator. Without thinking about the links, I open my heart, mind, and soul to the gifts delivered through sunsets, sunrises, blossoming flowers, the wind’s voice, and so much more. These are rarely whispers. Each voice is as loud and clear as I am willing to let it be. In opening myself up to the range and diversity of how nature speaks, I discover myself part of those experiencing the prophet’s observation; “By faith, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see.” (Hebrews 11.3)
I trust unconditional acceptance. With each experiential embrace, I rediscover Divinity’s statement of fact. I am a child of God. I am, at my best and my worst, part of a family that She created and blessed. Divinity offers her heart to me with unconditional love wherever she finds me. She cares enough to work with me to restore my brokenness and recreate my abilities and willingness to be divine in my thinking, words, and actions.
I trust hope. Each moment is an opportunity to step towards hope. Hope is knowing that I can make a difference. Hope is the certainty that life can be better. Hope is the belief in the evidence that our communities and each life in it represent: a divine statement of the possible.
