I wish I could tell you what it is like to cross the line of a marathon. It is something truly special! There are other experiences which compare – doing something few have ever done, accomplishing what others thought was impossible, and experiencing something truly perfect. I was in no rush to let the moment passed. I lingered, reluctantly moving on when time and life demanded. In that moment I had no recollection of the months of training, no memory of sore muscles and injuries, and no thought of what might have been; everything was present in the moment. It was so sweet then; it’s still sweet to remember now.
I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to experience a marathon. The knowledge which came with the finish line has and continues to reshape who and what I am. The experience allowed me to understand the challenge I faced in accepting God’s offer of friendship and relationship. For me God is rarely something completely natural. This is always a bit of tension, yet knowing the experience which comes when I sense the finish line provides me with an incredible incentive. I know God’s foundation of compassion is the best way to live. I know God’s tenant of mercy is better than justice. I find God’s acceptance is the defining marker for my life here and now. Each Divine value is a priority I aspire to live, experience, and give away. I cannot even begin to imagine what it will be like to cross the finish line.
In the interim I like to invite you to join me on this quest. Sometimes it seems tough, yet walking with God and God values is an incredible way to live. Sometimes life overwhelms, yet Divinity is an awesome companion. The invitation is wide open. Come and “you will sing, sing through an all-night holy feast! Your hearts will burst with song, make music like the sound of flutes on parade, En route to the mountain of God, on the way to the Rock of Israel.” (Isaiah 30.29)
