Guarantees are risky. Do we really understand the terms and conditions? What is the difference between what the person or corporation is offering and our expectations? I have become so skeptical that I usually discount the worth of a corporate promise to something that is “nice to have but probably will not ever work”. People change their minds. There is always another way to twist words.
Nowhere is this more applicable than with God. We listen as well meaning people spout excerpts, tag lines, and we know their words will never be true. We know that bad things happen to good people. You and I have first hand experience with the hand of the unjust. People who unselfishly give and give die without logic. Wicked people flourish in health and wealth. Are God's words merely for lulling us into a false sense of security and serenity?
Without tackling a subject that has mystified people for centuries, let me bring up a few facts.
God's greatest treasure and hope lies in the individual. He gave up all so that each may find restoration in Him. In granting us freedom to choose or reject Him, God also gave us the freedom to hurt, destroy, nurture, and love. In every event, action, decision, and thought God's primary concern is our decision of faith. Do we trust God? Are we stepping in faith? Is our hope in the Divine?
In this context read the promise that goes with you and I.
“You'll travel safely, you'll neither tire nor trip. You'll take afternoon naps without a worry, you'll enjoy a good night's sleep.” (Proverbs 3.23,24)
Travel outside of faith and full restoration is death. God lets us know that if we take Lady Wisdom and Common Sense with us (words for the Spirit) we will never be in a position to lose our bearings. Regardless of the pain and sorrow, we can always know God's victory is there for us. We can sleep in the deep peace and knowledge of God's love.
This is more than a guarantee; this is reality.
