The white logo on a dark green tag from a box that was shared with me as a gift. To the casual observer, it can appear as a single letter presented through calligraphy. While I acknowledge that this is one way of seeing it, experience reveals so much more. Life took a boutique maker of salted toffee in the village of Rønne and the small island of Bornholm in Denmark. Yes, it is a logo and oh so much more!
My inside-out knowledge of the logo and what it represents and delivers changes everything. I look at the logo and experience the warmth and thoughtfulness behind the gift. I remember the love and care that I found with each toffee. It was amazing how it all came together in a simple box of green and white. I cannot help wanting more to the point of adding this location as a bucket list item to experience.
Whispers remind me that the ordinary becomes special when infused with kindness and care. Examples are scattered across history, captured in simple, almost forgettable observations; “He did the same thing with the place of worship and its furniture.” (Hebrews 9.21) The ordinary in the day ahead can be experienced as the extraordinary when touched by the words and actions that I gift to others with care, kindness, and compassion.
Creating gifts leads to life ripples that extend beyond anything one can imagine. I look forward to saying “thank you” to the people behind the box. I will share stories of my surprise and the joy that followed. In releasing my heart, I hope to remind everyone involved of the importance of their individual and corporate actions. They have created something special. In this case, across the barriers of distance and time, they have brought the island’s summer breezes, harmony, and beauty to the sand of the Emirates.
What is inside is revealed as we experience the other. Individually wrapped toffee was dormant until I opened the door. The toffee was ready, prepared, and patient. With the opportunity, I was changed.
