I have been fortunate. Over the years I have had the opportunity to live in Oregon, California, Texas, Maryland, Florida, New York, London, Walton on Thames, and now Singapore. The number of countries I have travelled to for work is more than I am able to count or remember. As I reflect, I can think of people and experiences that bring me great joy. I can remember a few things that I did not enjoy as well.
The question is loaded. In today’s market, not being willing to relocate is a strong statement. On the other hand, there is the question of family, friends, and making a difference.
My answer has stayed the same. It echoes what others had said about where they were at the time. “For the present, I’m staying right here in Ephesus. A huge door of opportunity for good work has opened up here. (There is also mushrooming opposition.)” (1 Corinthians 16.9) In the future, it could be anywhere.
“Yes, I am open to relocating. I love where I am. I am open to anywhere with opportunities and something of interest.”
In the cool breeze of a new day, I realize that the punch line to statements past and present rests in staying and doing where one is. Change is always a possibility tomorrow. The question is never about then. It is always about now. We have an opportunity in the present. What will we do with it?
I have no idea how you will answer that question. It does not matter if I know or not, you actions will tell the story in the time that will unfold. I know that we share the ability, freedom, and chance to make a difference. Realizing this creates a wonderful moment in time where anything is possible. Our location and community is our canvas. Our action is our brush. It is time to paint.
