In a given moment, everything rests. Each is a moment filled with potential turns. With us are all kinds of emotions, sitting, eagerly waiting to see if we will choose to give them within life. I wish I could say that I consciously choose how I respond to each situation. Most of the time I respond and then start to work on managing my response. Linking my head and my heart is always easier to write about than to do.
When I think of moments where I felt great energy, strength, and hope, I often find myself in a place that others did not notice. They are often the small events of life, trivia and meaningless to everyone except the person living in that instance.
Moments include dinners where I was able to talk with individuals about the future. Each was an opportunity to share my experiences with the goal of helping him/her achieves their goal(s). Life is about sharing, living, and walking together. Given the current priorities and needs, I often find myself walking a solitary path. I treasure the quality moments of being present, giving, sharing, and exploring what might be possible.
Moments include opportunities to walk or ride. Getting out on the motorcycle, taking a stroll through an unexplored community, open doors of seeing a greater community. One is invited into something more.
Moments include conversations where others take on a portion of my challenges. It is not always easy to explain one’s perspective and the challenges of the day. When someone embraces your challenge as her/her own – filling out a form, working with a difficult colleague, or drafting a presentation – I find myself renewed. The impossible seems possible. The difficult is less so.
I know these are small moments. Yet, I also know that writers across the ages continue to document them. One noted “when we actually entered Rome, they let Paul live in his own private quarters with a soldier who had been assigned to guard him.” (Acts 28.16) It was trivia to many. It was also a source of Hope.
