In the course of dinner with great friends the other night, we ended up playing a game. It was a simple game with each taking turns in answering one question. If you could take the two people at this table to anywhere in the world where you had been, and they had not, where would it be and why? The answers and rationale were absolutely amazing. New Zealand and Scotland were among the list, both because of the same reason. One had found an incredible sense of peace, the views were beautiful awesome, and there was a heart felt desire to introduce and share. A particular set of islands in the Caribbean were on the list, for the same reason. So were Mendocino in California and the island of Hokkaido; again both for the same reason.
The reflection and thoughts that continue to come from these simple statements and descriptions of desire and hope have triggered a second question. What is the one thing I wish you knew about life, God, and relationships? The answer came easily and quickly and now will not leave my mind.
I wish you knew, in your heart, body, and soul, you were loved by God unconditionally, completely, and fully. I wish this knowledge came with the assurance of relationship. I hope this would give you the heart felt connection with Divinity.
It is just one thing and it is within your grasp. I realized, as I reflected, I had a standard of care that involved communicating, modeling, and supporting. I also saw this knowledge as a very powerful gift. Jesus had it. “Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God.” (John 13.3) This knowledge freed Jesus to get on with the important things in his life. We have the same knowledge without our reach.
Today is full of unknowns, traps, and opportunities. Knowing where we stand gives the freedom to make the most of it. Enjoy the ride! Everything is now.
