With new selections to consider, especially in the medium roasts for a French press, I wanted to sample all of them. Even as the offer was given to me, I knew the outcome would not be good. It was early evening. Espressos and related coffee drinks will encourage my body and mind to extend themselves well beyond their daily expiration time.
As the picture reveals, I gave in to the temptation. My body was now wired, and I pushed myself late into the evening, taking on tasks I would have otherwise been too tired to face. Today is off to a slow start, filled with reflection and fresh reminders.
Outcomes, real and imagined, influence one’s decisions. Life’s whispers remind me of the connections between consumption and what follows. Good and bad, helpful and indulgent, what I bring into my body, heart, and soul will shape who and what I am. I am in control. I have decisions to make. Food is obvious, even as life reminds me that what I consume extends far beyond the immediate. Sounds, sights, and relationships are soul food. What I hear, the things I choose to see, and even the relationships I find myself in will influence the person I am becoming.
Information is hiding all around us. It is not always easy to discern. It is often hiding in agendas, ignorance, and bravado. I have more opportunities than I realise to slow down, seek the truth, and take a view. I can be more than the sum of my fears. I can move beyond the old story, “When they heard the words – “If an animal touches the Mountain, it’s as good as dead” – they were afraid to move.” (Hebrews 12.20). I will not always get it right. Welcome to the cycle of learning, experimenting, understanding the outcome, and taking the next step in growing to be more than I was. Every step is an experience filled with lessons, insights, and opportunities.
I am energised today. With experiences and embraced lessons, it is time to take the next step.
