The guitar on the wall for sale in the performing arts school had a price tag. As I looked at the instrument and my reflection on the guitar’s finish, I wondered how many first-time buyers fully understood the price s/he would need to pay to become one of the best. In this state, I reflected on the expenditures to come. I could also hear the words of those who had invested. One’s perspective changes the all-in price required for success.
I catch myself looking back more often than I used to. A friend asked me how our lives would differ if we had met earlier. It was a question that filled me with hope because we know each other now, and there are more days to come. It also brings reflection and lessons for the day ahead.
Reaching a dream comes at a price. With hindsight, I can see the price I paid for the dreams I now live. In addition to the price others paid, I count the toll and expenses included in the investment for my goals. With this, I view what Divinity did from one faith system’s perspective through different eyes. It “accounts for the prominence of blood and death in all these secondary practices that point to the realities of heaven. It also accounts for why, when the real thing takes place, these animal sacrifices aren’t needed anymore, having served their purpose.” (Hebrews 9.23)
Life is found in each step. Looking back, I lived my life with each act and word. Destinations are fine in themselves, yet there is a “but.” In many ways, the destinations where I am are summaries of the journey that brought me here. With each day, in the many moments of the day, I added sentences and chapters to the book that capture and describe who I am.
I have never been a solo author. My life is written with others, including Divinity. I am thankful that each co-writer was willing to contribute. The story continues, thankfully, with others sharing ideas and collaborating on the bigger story.
