I woke up today to two reminders. First, on my phone was an amazing trip four years ago to the country of Eswatini. Though the business outcomes did not turn out as we expected, I look back at the experience with a sense of wonder and awe. Second, a friend randomly brought up a shared experience when we were decades younger than we are now. Oddly, we both remember the moment. His, a quiet, could not be shared, coming of age realisation. Mine, a sense of hearing and experiencing more than I could understand in the moment.
As the reflections played out in my mind, I could see a stairway. Your journey and mine are each unique. They have influenced the values, priorities, and beliefs that distinctively define us in more ways than I can imagine. When I put the reminders and reflections together, I see individuals with privileged paths. It is easy to think one’s journey is extreme, yet in every dimension, I know others have faced something greater. The I am honoured sentiment comes from a base of thankfulness and appreciation for gifts I did not deserve, opportunities that I treasure, and priceless memories.
As I look ahead today, I find myself listening to Life’s whispers, each as obvious as they are easily forgotten by me in the moment.
Live each day as if it were one’s last. The only moment one has is now, so the question is simple; what will you do with it?
Life is a battle, get used to it and move beyond it. Always remember, “Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.” (Romans 12.21)
Life is a gift Divinity presents to every child of God. In good times and bad, in pain and joy, one is in a unique position to make a difference. Kindness and care are always in fashion. Compassion is a universal need. Unconditional acceptance is priceless.
I do not know what today will bring. I do know that I have the privilege of making it better.
