Quests, for me, are like my bucket list – I am always on a quest. If/when I ever fulfil a quest, another takes its place. Life is about seeking the impossible, celebrating what I learn along the way, and continuing the journey. I know some quests are whimsical. Examples include the ongoing search for the perfect chaat or experiencing a flawless löyly (life force of steam) in a Finnish sauna. Others are more serious.
Thirty-plus years ago, I began a quest to hear and experience Divinity’s voice. Twenty-five years ago, I discovered her voice emerging through Life, guiding and teaching me. Initially, I understood her voice as a message for a friend. Along the way, I discovered that in sharing, I was hearing, experiencing, and changing because of the voice of Divinity. The whispers I capture in words is done with the intent of opening a door to the reader to hear the unique whispers in their life. My story, with its learnings, experiments, failures, and forward steps, is my own. Everyone has a personal whisper of Divinity in their lives.
Quests often continue, seemingly without end. Today’s challenges feel different, even as I see threads that began when I was very young. One of the joys of living is found when “I concentrated with all my might, studying and exploring and seeking wisdom – the meaning of life. I also wanted to identify evil and stupidity, foolishness and craziness.” (Ecclesiastes7.25). Each insight becomes a teaching moment, Divinity patiently working with me to take what She has shared and apply it to the moment I have.
Quests can lead to amazing experiences that are gateways to more. In letting go of the need to arrive, achieve, and win, I found myself out in an open field celebrating the opportunity to live. Life is in the movement, the relationships, and the challenges we face together. Life is found in community and in what we do together. In accepting that my work is not yet done, I find joy in working with Divinity, caring to make a difference.
