The walkway on the podium was more than a designer’s monotone answer to a need. There were shadows and reflections from carefully placed art that brought a sense of wonder and possibilities to individuals who chose to look down. From the rushed walk of many, I realised each change in the pavement was an opportunity to see into my past and reimagine my future. Life took advantage of my openness to use it to frame out the day ahead.
Life is greater than one imagination. It is easy to step onto the podium, see, and assume the first step of the path is the same as the steps that will follow. I see, analyse, and conclude. Frequently, in my rush from point A to B, I keep going. On this day, I slowed down to take in each step. I found myself in the shadows, seeing beyond in ways I had not anticipated. I danced in the colours and discovered so much more than I imagined. I found a world at my feet, waiting for me to take all she had to give.
Life’s gifts are available, though it takes two to receive them. As the giver, “Whether we feast or fast, it’s up to God.” (Ecclesiastes 2:25). Knowing Divinity is defined by compassion, mercy, and care, as I look in all directions, I am overwhelmed by what is available to me. I discover gifts of reflection and hope. I find moments of awe and beauty waiting to restore my heart and soul. I stumble, falling into the divine arms of those around me, each responding to Divinity’s call to help. The gifts become tangible with my willingness to be helped. They blossom and grow as I accept and put them to use.
In the quietness of the colours, I found myself seeing the future through the artist’s eyes. Each colour reflected a filter through which the sun could reach a heart. Each was an invitation to care, followed by making a difference to the individual on my left and right, behind me and in front.
