I reflected on the small works of art on the edge of the sitting area. The two individuals represented so much more than just individuals. There was more to the small castings than just being a couple. While the artist and story remain unknown, I was drawn into silence as life took me on a journey of awareness and learning.
Today begins with the echo of the artist’s work lingering in my mind. In my actions and words, I will tell a story. I will say far more than I realise to those I meet on my journey. In my specifics, there will be connections to a larger story. If what I do reflects my aspirations, what I reveal will invite others to join me on the path with kindness and care.
Symbols are important. I was recently stunned as I watched a phone being shared. It was a simple act of support and kindness to someone in need. Although the gesture was simple, its meaning and the emotional trail it left behind were so much more. I could feel the appreciation drowning out the words. I could sense the relief mixed with awe. For the giver, it was an action of care to make a difference. For the receiver, it was an embrace of acceptance and belonging.
One’s intent is honourably important. I am not suggesting that all honourable intent leads to good results. I am looking at how honourable intent opens unique doors that will only work when the key one uses is shaped by kindness and care. Even with flaws, like the old story in Israel, “when we pay tithes to the priestly tribe of Levi, they end up with Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 7.10). A flawed individual in an imperfect world bringing Divinity’s best to the moment s/he is in.
Representations live on. Years ago, a friend sent a note of appreciation to a young workshop participant. Decades later, in response to a promotion, he remembered how much the note meant, then and now.
Simple acts of kindness for the right reasons live on.
