“Thank you! Everything in me says ‘Thank you!’” Psalm 138.1
Ever been so totally overwhelmed that you can think of only one thing? For me, this happens three to four times a year, usually related to finances or getting older. Each year it is slightly different. In conversations with friends, I can see them struggling with the issues of the day, if only where the next outing or party is going to be. The overwhelming emotional wave I am thinking of is different from either event, it is as if your very soul is crying out.
David found himself in this spot frequently with God. His prayer cries and screams out with intensity and passion. David pursued God at a personal level and on behalf of a nation. He lived with injustice and life threatening events for years at a time. You can sense, almost feel the depth and heat the words convey. One wonders what brought the soul into such focus. During the past three or four weeks, I think I am beginning to understand.
Soul cries, really deep life changing emotions coming from the center of your being, occur most intensely when one fights a cause for someone or something else that you emotionally, intellectually, and physically own. Their cause is your cause, their pain your pain, their justice your responsibility. Frequently the people who benefit from this are not aware that someone is battling on their behalf. Rather they sense the personal friendship and love coming from one person to another.
When I think of God my mind drifts to my relationship to him along with what continues to happen when I live in the presence. God wants to use us in ways we find stunning and brilliant. God is looking and seeking to be in your life and mine. God is creeping into the nooks and crannies of our reality; do you see or feel him? When you let go, totally, relationships are different, you touch people as God’s hands, ears, eyes, and voice. Experience that and your soul will cry!
