What to get ahead? Find an advocate.
What to succeed in job? Find someone to mentor you along the way.
Want to win? Find a winner.
In life there are many ways to achieve one’s goals. Pushing through and over the crowd comes naturally to all of us. Have you ever noticed that a child crawling doesn’t appear to notice the texture over which he or she is crawling? Rough concrete, smooth tiles, or soft pine all fade in the excitement to get from point “a” to point “b”. I am not so sure anything changes as we get older. In our drive and enthusiasm to win we walk over people, crushing their spirits and dreams. When I was young I rarely give it a second thought, especially when I was basking in the winners circle.
My gray hairs now qualify me to suggest diplomatically that there is another way. I believe it is more effective. Additionally, in the space where ego, arrogance, and pride rested you will find much humility, servant leadership, and compassion. The way has several variations however there are certain aspects that are fundamental.
First, “don’t call attention to yourself; let others do that for you.” (Proverbs 27.2)
Second, explore the mantra that winning is in the process, not the destination.
Third, take time, much time, to count the count and the payback.
I have yet to find a situation where working in harmony with someone is not better than going it alone. There are too many examples of individuals winning at the post and discovering that they are the only ones celebrating; everything they held of value has been abandoned along the way.
God offers you and me the chance to make it to the big time! We can be part of the crowning symbols of the universe; living, breathing, experiencing examples of what can happen with Divinity itself fills the soul. Will we talk of change? Absolutely, from the inside out! Will we speak of winning? In more way than one can imagine!
God is advocate, mentor, and ultimate winning.
