The noise was making it harder and harder to hear the panel. There are 12,000 individuals attending Abu Dhabi’s AIM Congress. Scattered around the venue halls are big temporary rooms for panel discussions and presentations. With an open ceiling, the sounds of other panels, presentations, and conversations drift over the wall and mingle within each room. On each seat for the audience was a receiver with a promise of “delivering trust and value”. As I searched for the station in room 5, I could hear Life’s whispers exploring the promise.
This was my connection with the panel and messengers. Without the transmitters and receivers, the noise of the congress easily dominated my hearing. The irony was the promise was, to me, not about the message. The promise was for the message.
Today, I will be on a panel. Others will be using a similar device to the one I held in my hand to hear. As I think about my role in fulfilling the promise, Life keeps taking me back to the calling to engage.
You and I are vehicles for messages of kindness and care. I do not believe I have an option to outsource this responsibility. I am accountable for the message that is delivered. The challenge is to deliver it with trust and value! The old author’s observation remains true today, “God didn’t put angels in charge of this business of salvation that we’re dealing with here.” (Hebrews 2.5) Divinity invited me to be a speaker. What happens next is on my watch.
The audience, the people I meet, and those in my community are looking to experience hope. There is a thirst for care. There is a gap that is only filled with kindness. The idea of belonging, being accepted, and experiencing support is fragile. I am invited to find an opportunity to speak and act with each step I take today. The invitation is not exclusive. I need as much, maybe more, than I can possibly give.
The panel opportunity is an exciting honour. I see it continuing beyond the moment.
