When something profound occurs, especially when it is a matter is relationship or beauty, even the skeptic will acknowledge their awe. Watching a sunset with the incredible colors, silence, and movement stills each voice. Hearing certain sounds, the wonder of a baby in response to a mother, nature’s music, or sounds that echo death itself will cause one’s heart to skip a beat. In the brief moment that follows there is a sense of profound acknowledgement and desire for life’s highest priorities. These are universal.
I find my seeing others and myself as isolated islands fighting for survival. Especially in moments of tension and stress the tendency is to pull up the bridges of relationship and support. It is almost as if we are programmed to resist the very act that will help the human family reach for new frameworks beauty, love, and creative potential. Embedded in each decision is the element that haunts us all, the painful and traumatic results of rejection. In the moment of opportunity we pulled back, reluctant to take on something beyond the immediate.
I want today to be different! I long, in your world and in mine, to hear and experience life based on relationships that take advantage of every moment of beauty, love, and grace while rejecting exploitation, ignorance, and arrogance. The model can begins here and lead into eternity. John saw the scene and was overwhelmed! Everyone on all levels is caught reacting to a moment of grace and awe.
“All who were standing around the Throne—Angels, Elders, Animals—fell on their faces before the Throne and worshiped God.” (Revelation 7.10)
Today is a fresh opportunity to live and create. You and I have the power, we have the tools, and we have the ability to create fresh moments and lives of mercy, beauty, and compassion. The words may sound fanciful but in your life and mine they can be real with our choices. The opportunities are there and I am willing to take them! Come, two making a difference is three times more powerful than one.
