The days have been busy. There are so many twists and turns that it is hard to keep things straight. I keep trying to make sense of it all, falling back on the observation that keeps repeating itself in my life; “The wind blows south, the wind blows north. Around and around and around it blows, blowing this way, then that – the whirling, erratic wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:6)
I listen to Life’s whispers in the calm and silence of a new dawn. It is a repeating chant based on the words in the lights on the restaurant wall – “where dreams become reality.”
Reality is found in the moment. Whatever has happened in my life is now past, consigned to my memories. Especially with time, celebrations lose their highs and pain their edge. Looking back, I see with clarity that I never imagined. As time leaves its mark, the past moves from my recent reality to a dream and story of my imagination. I have come to appreciate that my only reality is found in the moment I have. I can get lost in my dreams of the future and stories of yesterday. When I find myself, it is in the moment at hand.
Dreams become real through action and relationships. Without both, what I imagine will remain as it is. Love is an expression found in someone else. Forgiveness is a gift shared between those involved. To take a dream from where it is to where it could be requires awareness, understanding, and a willingness to take a chance. There are no guarantees with our dreams. There are possibilities, endless possibilities, in our dreams. My greatest dreams have begun without limitations or boundaries. When others joined to make the dream even larger and more unimaginable, what seemed impossible became a calling and shared vision and, with time, a new reality.
Dreams can become real at any time and in any place. We bring our dreams to life in the stories written by each step of belief taken in a shared moment with a brother or sister.
