“If God hadn’t been there for me, I never would have made it. The minute I said, ‘I’m slipping, I’m falling,’ your love, God, took hold and held me fast.” Psalm 94.17,18
The warning signs should have clued us in. “Warning, Proceed at Your Own Risk.” “Keep your windows up!” “Monkeys may damage your vehicle.” Who knew what the monkey island section of the Longleat Safari Park could be like? The initial experience deceived even the skeptic. The keepers were spreading food on the other side and every monkey sat in rapped attention.
“Well mannered,” commented one observer. “So nice,” another quipped. The words abruptly stopped as we watched a small, innocent looking monkey methodically sway on and then rip an aerial from the red car near us. As another chewed the rear window washer off in front of our eyes, all doubts vanished! When one jumped on our roof and proceeded to rip the rubber molding up we knew we were at war! Quickly driving with wild swings, I tried to take control. No success but a short attention span came to the rescue. Boring with us, the monkey slid off and on to the next car of interest.
Mom never warned me about the troubles and pain in life. I am sure she used words of caution, I am equally sure I had not idea what they could and would come to mean. Life is painful! Life is pressing at all corners with no way out. Life hurts people I love and I cannot do anything directly for them, at least this is how I feel! Where were the warning signs? Someone caused my pain.
Someone or something may be responsible but I am more interested in who can help! Coming back home, I began to fix dinner and Dad headed for the car. Timing perfect, dinner was ready and the car back to normal. God’s grace and love is here no matter what we do, say, or think. God timing is perfect. God will take care of everything.
God wills. Do I?
