The scene in front of the restaurant was chaotic. Cars, small buses, people going in and out of a hotel, residences, and the restaurant, everyone fighting for attention and priority. Add to the mix delivery personnel with small motorcycles, and the stage was set for confusion. In the midst of it all, the signs for takeaways were clear and well laid out. There was no need to speak, no need to raise one’s voice, or ask for directions. Everything looked as if it would be impossible to make work, even as it worked with quiet efficiency.
I start this morning with a sense of clarity in the day ahead. It also looks chaotic. If one reacted to the chaos, there are lots of reasons to support this choice. Alternatively, I hear life’s whispers offering me a different perspective.
Consider, reflect, and then act. There is no advantage to running ahead of myself. When I slow down, consider my calling and grounding in Divinity’s embrace, reflecting on the opportunity at hand, I experience what it is like to wear peace, embrace harmony within, and discover that Courage is on my side. Old wisdom left by a writer comes to mind; “Don’t shoot off your mouth or speak before you think. Don’t be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to hear. God’s in charge, not you – the less you speak, the better.” (Ecclesiastes 5.2)
Life’s signs and guides are in the chaos one sees ahead. Life is increasingly busy, filled with images, sounds, and movement. It is easy to be distracted by everything that is unfolding. In opening myself up to my purpose and the need within the moment I have, I find the noise around me fading. I see the sign just ahead of me and the hint of the next one that will follow as I step forward. My task is clear – take one step at a time in faith. I can trust myself with the freedom to care and make a difference.
Clarity begins within and moves into each moment.
