One building stood out as I walked through the deepening shadows with nightfall approaching. With the Emirati colours reflecting on its pinnacle, I could hear a lingering question about my journey. I see obstacles and barriers. I know that life can be confusing and misleading. The immediate calls to attention are the dark blocks in front, as my eyes are drawn to what is further. As I walk, I wonder: When my aim is perfect, what is the ideal outcome of my efforts?
One’s destination is as big and wonderful as one is willing to make it. Life whispers encourage me to look beyond. So much is possible. It will not be easy. It is not a given. My challenge is being willing to see, imagine, and reach out with every word and action. I am encouraged by those who went before me. Their courage is soul food. Their endurance strengthens my heart. “They were after a far better country than that – heaven country. You can see why God is so proud of them and has a City waiting for them.” (Hebrews 11.16)
Each step matters. Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching’s words echo; “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It can be heard as a cliché and ignored with casual indifference. In the darkness, I understood its truth. With a new day ahead of me, I decide how I will continue the journey. In a moment of clarity, I realise I will live my life out in each step.
The opportunity is now. I look back, knowing I never imagined my path. Life, then and now, is in the moment that one holds. It is my chance to bring compassion, kindness, and care to the moment. When I care, everything changes! There is a new doorway for the individuals sharing this moment to experience belonging and Divinity’s active embrace. Yes, the moment has context and points towards the destination ahead. It is also our reality. It is the place where one finds one’s heart and soul. It is our home.
