The conversation ran gently into the night. Laughter, stories, and insights were shared without reservation. As I start a new morning, I am guided by the wisdom in the well of the friendships represented. I know it is a source that will be there for me if needed. I can see further, deeper, and more clearly because of their views and experience. It is a priceless gift.
Within each of us is more wisdom than we realise. With age, I find it easy to lose my grip on the lessons of time. I am surprised by the reaction within when I pause in a tense moment. It is as if I have permissioned myself to remember and understand what was always there. When I take this step, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose. I find myself holding gems that remind me what has worked and what has failed. I have tools in my hands where there were none. I have skills and abilities that I thought had been lost. I can do so much more than I believed that I could.
My wisdom is not complete. In the flood of memories, stories, and experiences, I often think I am whole. “I said to myself, “I know more and I’m wiser than anyone before me in Jerusalem. I’ve stockpiled wisdom and knowledge.”” (Ecclesiastes 1:16). In those moments, I think of sitting around the table, soaking in wisdom beyond my imagination. I can hear the whispers reminding me that together we know more. When Divinity is with us, the well grows deeper.
In every opportunity, we can tap into more than we know. The reminders to myself today include the following. Look deep into your memories to remind yourself of wisdom within. Seek out trusted relationships, starting with Divinity. Bring one’s heart and soul with an openness to hearing more. The relationships in our life are willing to help. At times they will need permission. On other occasions, they will be present, asked for or not!
Life’s story is never me; it is always we.
